Each year the three main branches of the NZ Antarctic Society celebrate Midwinter Day, the most significant day in the Antarctic Calendar. (Wikipedia | Midwinter_Day)
Wellington Branch has in recent years honoured the occasion with a gathering of the local Antarctic community including members of the Diplomatic Corps and government officials along with Antarctic researchers, support staff and friends.
This year’s Midwinter Celebration will be held of 19 June on the Kelburn Campus of Victoria University of Wellington, with invitations to all circulated this month.
The Celebration will begin with a series of brief presentations from young researchers from different countries, a break for socialising, and then the traditional short speeches and Toasts from community representatives. These are the Loyal Toast, Toast to Treaty Nations, Toast to Present Parties, and after a chat with Scott Base the Toast to Past Parties.
