To mark the 60th anniversary of the Antarctic Treaty on 1 December, the NZ Antarctic Society has partnered with LINZ to produce a new wall map of Antarctica which has been sent to every school in NZ this year. The large AO-sized wall map is a huge advance on previous maps of Antarctica.

The production of the new map was backed by a number of supporting partners including Victoria University of Wellington, Otago University, Waikato University, AUT University, NIWA, GNS, NZ Sea Rise, and the Antarctic Report.

The Auckland Central Library is hosting a live webinar with  Dr Natalie Robinson, scientist at NIWA, with six field trips to Antarctica under her belt. She will discuss the mapping of Antarctica and showcase the bold new map. Themes address climate change issues such as the ice sheets, ocean currents and sea ice. To register your interest please email [email protected]

The map can be obtained by becoming a member of the NZ Antarctic Society.
