Antarctic Discovery Day

Date: 28 Aug 2021 - 28 Aug 2021
Time: 10:30 am - 4:00 pm
Location:

Bishop Viard School
20 Kenepuru Dr, Porirua

The Antarctic Discovery Day is a FREE family-friendly initiative of the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Antarctic Society. This year, we have partnered with Bishop Viard School in Porirua to host a day of Antarctic-themed activities and displays, open to the public with no cost for entry.

With volunteer contributions from Wellington-based scientists, artists, communicators, and many others we have created a ‘drop-in’ day of Antarctic-themed activities, presentations, interviews and opportunities to chat one-on-one. Along with an array of activity and information booths spread around the hall, there will be opportunities to chat live with Scott Base, try on real Antarctic clothing and climb into a real Antarctic tent.

We also have an exciting line-up of short talks which will be spread throughout the day, showcasing a variety of Antarctic activities, experiences and perspectives. We are collating a selection of classroom resources that can be used in the weeks leading up to the event to promote engagement of schools, children and their families.
