Artist Sean Garwood visited Antarctica as part of Antarctica New Zealand’s community engagement plan. With the support of the Antarctic Heritage Trust he spent time at Scott’s and Shackleton’s huts, recording and committing them to memory.

Once back home in New Zealand, he set about painting his impressions. The result is 16 paintings depicting the environs of the heroic-era explorers.

Sean is now showing he resulting exhibition in Christchurch with the support of the Fine Arts Society of New Zealand, and as part of The Antarctic Office’s Antarctic Season Opening programme.

Keep an eye out at New Zealand Post for a joint collaboration between Sean Garwood, Antarctic Heritage Trust and New Zealand Post which has resulted in a new stamp issue, 2017 Historic Huts of the Ross Dependency.
