New Zealand has significant and enduring strategic interests in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean. These include peace, security, and effective governance, together with environmental, scientific, conservation, reputation, and economic interests.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade is refreshing New Zealand’s statement of these interests (the previous statement was published in 2002). You’ll find a copy of the proposed draft ‘plain English’ statement here: Proposed ‘plain English’ statement of New Zealand’s interests in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean: .

We invite you to this public meeting to discuss the draft proposed statement and to provide feedback.

RSVP to [email protected]  by 4pm on Tuesday 24 July.

NB:  Please arrive by 3.50pm to complete sign-in and security requirements.
