We’re excited to announce the Mid-Winter Celebration has been re-scheduled for Wednesday the 21st of July, starting at 6.30 pm at the Hunter Common Room, Kelburn Campus (Gate 2), Victoria University of Wellington. Please arrive from 6 pm as we will be getting underway at 6.30pm.

The annual Mid-Winter celebration is an opportunity for NZ Antarctic Society members to join with diplomats from the Antarctic Treaty nations, NZ Antarctic officials, and the wider Antarctic community, in celebrating the collaboration that is a feature of the international community working together on this continent for peace and science.

Following the interesting and enjoyable presentations last year, from Ambassadors Brown (US), Forsyth (Australia), Marcelli (Italy) and CE of Antarctica New Zealand Sarah Williamson, this year we will have diplomats from the Republic of Korea, France and Russia to highlight and celebrate research in the region. We will also hear from Jana Newman, Manager of Antarctic and Southern Ocean Unit, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The event will include the traditional four toasts (Loyal Toast, Past Parties, Present Parties, Treaty Nations), and a live call to the New Zealand Scott Base in Antarctica.

Sponsorship from the Antarctic Research Centre, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Webster’s Drilling, has allowed us to provide this event for free to members this year, and we thank you for your ongoing support.

We hope you can make it!

Georgia Grant and Jamey Stutz,

Chairs, Wellington Branch NZAS
